It is a very, very nice state park. It is also very huge! There are trails that go through the woods, that you can run, bike or walk. There is also a beach with a very nice boardwalk. It has a moat, and the infamous Cardiac and snake hills, for those runners! It's just a great park.
More than just a beach, the park has fantastic hiking trails, tidal marshes, playgrounds, and picnic areas (turn right before the bridge for the best spots). It can get pretty crowded on summer weekends. My favorite time to go is late spring and early fall.
For a public state run facility it's in pretty good shape, that's the reason for a extra star. Improvements have and is continually being made here. Facilities are updated and bunkers added to some holes. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Large multi-use park, full of hiking trails fishing holes, places to picnic, and my personal favorite, it's own beach. A lot less crowded than the south shore beaches, gives Suffolk County (and anyone else for that matter) residents a convenient and easy place to go every summer.
Enjoy a perfect day by the beach, a walk on the boardwalk or sand, or even go for a hike on their numerous hiking trails. Perfect to go see the sun set with a special someone.
